1991
1991: Knoxville’s first Pride parade! When I think of Pride, I immediately think of joy and I wanted to create a scent that evokes that feeling. Many of my joyful summer memories are centered around the ocean, and this scent recreates the effervescent joy found at the beach and at Pride.
20% of sales of 1991 will be donated to the UTK Pride Center.

Starts with a wave of realistic, tangy grapefruit, which may be my favorite citrus note. It's a tinge salty and the saltwater note gets stronger but doesn't overtake the grapefruit at first, it blends in together as a woodsy note lurks in the background. It becomes a pleasant blend of citrus, woods and saltwater, then morphs into this musky/musty scent as the grapefruit subsides. The grapefruit note doesn't last the length of the fragrance but that's pretty standard for a lot of citrus notes in indie perfumes so it's ok. According to the scent description, this is supposed to be reminiscent of the beach, but it's more like if you're approaching the beach from several blocks away, the "saltwater" note is clean and fresh, no oceanic scent (if that makes sense), more like the ambient salt scent you'd smell in the air on your way there. I like this, it leans a bit masc (just on the drydown) in my opinion so I'll have to revisit it, but so far I've been very impressed with this house.
Opening is pleasantly salty, fresh n' tart. It initially has that pepper'y, zippy grapefruit kick to it but settles in smoother. It's fruity, quickly followed by a funk-free saltwater. Then soon after that, the warm, woody boardwalk emerges. I also start to smell a soft lemon-like note at this point. It's a well blended mix with layers. The boardwalk note is mellow. 'Stays a true unisex scent without teetering into men's summer body wash territory. On skin this has an unexpected musky aspect! It smells like warm skin when ya' get out of a saltwater pool. The scent overall has an airy, aquatic vibe that I can easily see others enjoying!
I'm so glad you found this to be a true unisex scent and that the airy, aquatic vibe of 1991 resonated with you!
1991 is a beautiful, unisex fragrance. The grapefruit is crisp and bright. It's the perfect summer scent. I will be wearing this often during the summer!
I'm so glad you found the perfect summer scent! Enjoy your reviewer discount :)
Wow, completely unexpected direction this one went in and I’m absolutely loving it! Very zippy, spicy and bright. I’m not sure where the heat from this is coming from but I’ve never smelled anything like it (possibly a fresh ginger note?)
The grapefruit is definitely present and adds a great fresh-tartness to back up the spice which makes it perfect for hot weather. As it starts blending with my skin more, I smell a brininess, from the saltwater note, in just the right amount, so that it doesn’t turn into a funky aquatic scent but adds yet another interesting layer of complexity.
Even though this fragrance is wonderful for hot weather, it will also be just as wearable when the colder weather starts making an appearance (which as far as I’m concerned, can’t happen quickly enough.) I’m definitely going to be getting a FS of 1991 and Sunsphere Sunset and I’m excited to try out my other samples now.
Thanks so much for your kind words! I'm glad you found the salwater note to be 'just right', enjoy the rest of your souvenirs!
This is such a unique scent! And, I would definitely say it is a unisex scent suitable for anyone! Very fresh and summery!
Fresh is the perfect way to describe 1991! Thank you!
